My Journey and the Origin of Sports Consciousness

I’ve been on a journey for decades to help athletes and coaches thrive—and I love this work with my whole being. I’m curious by nature. I’ve read over 3,000 books because I believe books hold magic and insight most people overlook. I’m a meditator, a spiritual seeker, a shaman at heart. And while I’ve trained champions and walked into NBA locker rooms, this isn’t about accolades. It’s about alignment. It’s about purpose. It’s about the path.

I was a standout two-sport NCAA athlete—basketball and track—and I held the record for most rebounds in the NCAA for half a season. My passion for performance, leadership, and human potential led me to become an NCAA Head Coach in my early 20s and later a Division I Assistant Coach at Pepperdine University.

In 1999, during those early coaching years, I met my mentor Dr. Jerry Lynch. His influence sparked what would become a lifelong commitment to integrating mind, body, and spirit into sport.

By 2001, I began formally developing what I now call Sports Consciousness—a practice grounded in the belief that sport is a gateway to human potential, spiritual growth, and energetic alignment.

This wasn’t just visualization or mindfulness. I was weaving in meditation, frequency, breath, intuition, body-based healing, and early versions of what would become my proprietary Sports Energy Medicine™ system. My work was about integrating performance with purpose. Helping athletes elevate on the scoreboard and in the soul.

I am a PhD candidate in Quantum Integrative Medicine and have written three books that chronicle my pioneering work—Making the Team (2005), Sports Energy Medicine (2018), and The Cosmic Athlete (2018), one of the first to fully articulate the concept of Sports Consciousness and the energetic nature of peak performance.

I’ve taught nearly 100,000 athletes and others how to access the zone through a clear, repeatable, neuroscience and science-rooted method. I’ve worked with world champions, Super Bowl winners, NCAA champions, and NBA All-Stars. I served as the Director of Mental Performance for the LA Clippers and their G League affiliate, under NBA legend Dee Brown.

In 2020, I finalized my proprietary 4-step formula for Zone Training. It includes not only cognitive science and nervous system alignment, but also quantum mechanics and performance energetics. This isn’t theoretical. It works. I’ve seen it transform athletes from the inside out.

I’ve long referred to this level of performance as the Unicorn Zone—that rare, magical, all-systems-go state that most chase but few can enter on command. I created the first method that makes it trainable. The zone isn't a myth - it just feels like magic.

I’m thrilled that more of the world is catching on to the idea that sport is a path to awakening. That's the whole idea behind Sports Consciousness. This approach has deep roots. For those of us who’ve been walking this path for decades, the unicorn isn’t mythical—it’s methodical. And it's very real.

If the zone is a muscle, it's one I’ve been training it for a long time.
